Travel vaccine
£80 · 3 doses
Rabies is a viral infection spread by the bite, scratch or lick of an infected animal — most often dogs, but also cats, monkeys and bats. Once symptoms appear it is almost always fatal, which is why prevention and rapid treatment matter so much. Risk areas include most of Asia, Africa and parts of Latin America.
Recommended for trips of a month or more in risk countries, remote travel where post-bite treatment is far away, cyclists and runners, animal workers, and children (who are bitten more often and report bites less). Bali, India, Thailand and the Philippines generate many of the animal-bite cases we hear about.
Three doses over 21–28 days before travel. Pre-exposure vaccination doesn't remove the need for urgent care after a bite, but it makes treatment far simpler — no hunting for rabies immunoglobulin, which is scarce in many countries.
Travelling in a few weeks or a few months? Either way, we can help. Coming in four to six weeks ahead gives the most flexibility for any multi-dose courses.
Flying sooner — even this week? Please still book. We offer rapid and accelerated courses, and most travellers can be vaccinated on the same day as their appointment. Many single-dose vaccines provide protection quickly.
Had some vaccines before? Bring your records and we will check what is still in date. Often a single booster is all that is needed, and that can be given at the same visit.
A straightforward visit, usually 15–20 minutes, with no obligation to have anything you do not need.
Where you are going, what you will be doing and how long for. Bring any vaccination records you have.
Our pharmacist checks your itinerary and health history against current UK travel health guidance, and explains what is worth having.
Most vaccines are given there and then. If a rapid or accelerated course suits you better, we will plan it around your travel date.
Our pharmacist will confirm at your risk assessment — there is no obligation to have anything you do not need.
